Cincinnati, Ohio Deck with Weathered Sun Damaged Wood is resurfaced by Kong Armor .

It amazes me still to this day. The resurfacing POWER of Kong Armor. I’ve never seen a coating system that can bring back severly weathered wood ? like Kong.

So this was a deck in Cincinnati in the Mt.Airy neighborhood , that had all the signs of what we call #uglydeck; sun damage , cracks , hairlines , Cupping, shelving , and more were present on most of the boards and planks. Overall the deck was just beat up and outside of maintenance. UV DAMAGE , LOOSE FASTNERES , ROTTEN BOARDS , FASTENER CORROSION, LOOSE RAILS , LARGE OPEN DECK POST CRACKS AND AGAIN EXTREMELY WEATHERED PLANKS ESPECIALLY ON THE FLOOR.

Surprisingly this particular deck did not have a massive peeling deck paint problem.

We gave this project the hashtag #airydeck , you can see the decks Weathering and surface damage in this picture.

We came in with our Deck Restoration Painting process to restore the #airydeck and resurface it. The process combines deck restoration and repair (of course cleaning as well) with our thick industrial power , high-stretch, elastic deck armor.

We cleaned the #airydeck and replaced its rotten boards, set down loose nails and screws , tightened up loose bolts and other fasteners, added braces anywhere we could for stability.

Then we came in with our special Epoxy filler SilverBack Epoxy and filled in large cracks in deck posts and made board and plank repairs to imperfections and ugly knots . Most contractors who paint/stain or refinish decks in this day and age do not even close off post cracks with anything. If they do, you can rest assured it will be a cheap two dollar tube of caulk, ultimately this will end up just being a gooey mess and growing mildew deep in the cracks of a deck. SilverBack is far superior. Its insane adhesion and psi resistance actually fights cracks from reopening. This in-turn locks water out of them long-term and creates true Water-Lock.

On this particular deck project one special thing we did during the restoration process was the addition of metal straps and braces to add stability and tightness too some loose privacy fence rails of the deck. We pride ourselves on not only just coating and encapsulating decks in our proprietary deck armor, but also our Restoration and how thorough it is. Just like our deck armor coating process, we go beyond what anyone else in our field would even think of. Also we brought the deck system up to maintenance with general oddball repairs. Our Restoration Process is designed to bring decks and outdoor structures back to sound , safe , and ready to be protected. There is no reason to coat and refinish a deck that’s just going to fall over.

Once all this was done we brought in our insanely thick , ultra tough , Lifetime Deck Armor System to resurface the #airydeck and bring it back to life via the #encapsulation process. Our Encapsulation process is a bit different than deck painting .

We have to use the term “deck painting” to attract customers. But Kong’s actual application process is called “Encapsulation” . Its working with the intent to press our industrial grade elastic polymer into as many cracks and gaps, imperfections, voids , and nail and screw entry holes as possible. Deck Painting is when a local painter applies thin residential deck paint or stain to your deck with no intention of filling in and resurfacing and creating #waterlock #encapsulation. They just lay it on the surface , change your decks color and leave it wholesale unprotected. Our process is more thorough and superior. I promise.

Lets look at the end results of the #airydeck

Bam! Back to Life and Armored. Notice how your hard pressed to find a nail or screw entry that’s open? that’s real water-lock protection for your deck. Your not getting that from a local painter or handyman, they do not even know there supposed to do it!

Kong Armor’s ultra thick bodied , elastic formula was manually pressed into the hairlines , cracks , and nail and screw entry holes on this deck to create #encapsulation. There is very very few areas where water can enter the planks on the #airydeck. This is going to massively cut down on future maintenance cost for the deck owner.

Let me tell you another thing that thick-build encapsulation does that’s helpful to deck boards and planks. It actually blocks a great deal of moisture from the air absorbing into them. What some old timers reference as { wood breathing}. This is good news. Why?……… Well , its this { wood breathing} or deck planks and boards drawing in moisture [relative humidity] from the air , that causes the expansion and contraction cycle. If we can slow down that cycle , we can keep deck boards healthier , stronger, longer . And again cut down on the future maintenance cost for the deck owner. Which is a extremely important goal of Kong Armor as a company. Thick-Build Kong Armor is better. Here are some more pictures;

This deck was initially built over top of a old Mt. Airy Cincinnati Concrete patio stoop. so the steps to the deck are actually the old concrete steps for the patio. Kong’s adhesion on Concrete is unreal. We get a lot of request for foundations and concrete patios.
